Nancy Fobert
Artisan
My main body of work encompasses 2 mediums; Mixed-Media Metal Art using vintage tin ceiling tiles as canvases and Watercolor Painting.
My Mixed-Media Art comes from the joy of finding the beauty in the unusual and even the unwanted. My encounter with tin ceiling tiles began in a church located in Elmira, NY. in 2009, as seen under the Raw Materials and History tab. I will never forget when I looked up and saw that magnificent ceiling that had witnessed decades of history. Although the ceiling was falling down and in poor condition, I knew I could give it a new life as Art. I bravely experimented with a variety of paints, stains and sealers until I found the “sweet spot” for each pattern. I call this process of several layers of paint and stain - tin glazing - because it has the look of the glaze found on fine ceramics.
. I am thankful to God for this new found passion and feel blessed when someone else “gets” the vision of my Art by making it part of their everyday life and home.
Watercolor painting gives me a completely different experience– it allows me to empty my mind. It gives me the freedom to not be driven but to just “be”. Watercolor painting is a time not to think of the cares of life but to focus on the paper, paint and God’s glorious creation around me!

Artist Biography
Nancy was born in the Finger Lakes Region and raised in the Midwest, she has always expressed herself through art. After raising a family, Nancy and her husband, Gary, returned east to join her Father in the antique business. The antique collection offered a diverse palette to convey her creativity. She discovered her passion, selecting pieces of the past and unlocking their beauty in a fresh way for a new generation to enjoy.
The canvas for her art pieces are ceiling tiles from the late 1800's and early 1900's that once adorned many magnificent ceilings. Each piece is thoroughly cleaned to highlight the patina of the aged tin. She also enjoys creating custom pieces that reflect her vision as an artist combined with clientele-preferred colors. On the back of each piece, the story is told of where the tile began its journey. Art that breathes history on your walls!!
"Rust & dents are to tin as
Wrinkles and laugh lines are to a face;
they all add character!"
